With November upon us we are now going to look at the second group of Standards that SS Educational Services will be offering to carry out End Point Assessments (EPA), The Children, Young People and Families Standards.
Today we shall be looking at an overview of Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Level 4 standard. This standard was approved for delivery in June 2018, and is currently being revised, so the information contacted here is relevant at the moment. The Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Evaluation state that the overview of the role ‘Working with children, young people and families, including carers, to achieve positive and sustainable change in their lives’. There are 2 pathways depending on where you work. Option 1 is for Practitioners in Children’s Residential Care – you are working in settings such as children’s homes or residential special school. Option 2 is for Practitioners Within the Community, which has a more diverse range of work settings, including family homes (foster care), youth justice and children’s centres. There are core Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours, and then the apprentice will choose either Option 1 or Option 2, with differing Knowledge and Skills.
The apprenticeship will take up to 2 years – depending on prior experience – at which point the apprentice will go through Gateway – and then undertake their EPA. If you choose SSES as your End Point Assessment Organisation we will have been in regular contact with you, and will be providing you with all the necessary documentation you will need, and support you through any steps you may need help with. This means that both you and your apprentice are prepared for both Gateway and the EPA.
The End Point Assessment should take between 2 – 3 months and consists of two components:
- Observation of Practice and a
- Competence Interview, underpinned by the apprentice’s portfolio
SS Educational Services have a small group of Independent End Point Assessors, who have a strong competence in working with children, young people and families.
