Earlier this month we looked at the End Point Assessment requirements for the Children, Young People and Families Practitioner L4 standard. Today we are going to take a detailed look at the End Point Assessment requirements for the Children Young People and Families Manager L5 standard.
An Apprentice in this role may have a position as a Manager in children’s residential care or as a Children, Young People and Families Manager in the community as well as a wide range of positions within the private, voluntary and community sector. Full details of the Standard can be found on the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education website here.
As with the L4, the L5 requires the Apprentice to supplement the core standards program with specialist skills and knowledge depending on their role. The two options are either
*Option 1 manager in children’s residential care; or
*Option 2 children, young people and families manager within the community
Whichever option the Apprentice chooses, the End Point Assessment remains the same. This consists of 2 assessment methods. The first is a Situational Judgement Test and the second (as with the L4) is a Competency Interview, which is informed by the portfolio submitted at Gateway.
1. Situational Judgement Test
The Situational Judgement Test will last 120 minutes. The Apprentice will face nine work-based scenarios and the Apprentice must explain what they would do in that scenario and why. Their answers must show the Independent End Point Assessor evidence of how they would resolve the scenarios. This is an opportunity for the Apprentice to show their leadership skills, problem solving skills and decision making along with analysis and use of professional judgement within in a children’s health and social care context.
2. Competence interview
The Competence Interview will take place between the Apprentice and an Independent End Point Assessor. This will last approximately 55 to 65 minutes and is based around the portfolio submitted at Gateway. The Independent End Point Assessor will use some questions from a bank of suitable questions supplied by SS Educational Services. The remainder of the questions will be drawn from the scrutiny of the portfolio where evidence of strength and gaps in knowledge are noted. The Competency Interview gives the Apprentice an opportunity to plug the gaps and elaborate on areas of strength. This assessment gives the Apprentice an opportunity to showcase the knowledge skills and behaviours they have acquired during their training.
Please note the different requirements to that in the Assessment Plan, which is explained in the link for the IfATE website above.
